This year we planted fifteen one-hundred foot rows of beans. We had ten of red beans and five of pinto. We counted up to seventy beans per plant and the plants were only two inches apart. Last Monday we were out in the garden at 6:00 (in the morning) picking beans with Nanny and a neighbor. Our bean picking was not going to fast! So Hannah texted Jacob and pleaded for them to come help their tired cousins, so our sweet cousins came and rescued us.

The boys shelled the red beans in the pea sheller; but the pintos would not shell in it, so us girls shelled them. It was a lot of work, but the red beans were very good in the chili at supper!
In the end, we had beans canned, frozen, and dried. We gave away a lot and put up a lot. We were very blessed! Thank you Nanny & Papaw, Eloise, The Charlestons (who helped us get started the day before) and The Wilsons who worked ‘til dark helping us! And thank the Lord for His bountiful provision!
